Heart failure : A very frequent pathology totally ignored
The TV-broadcast “Télématin” of the 19th of June 2014, Doctor Brigitte-Fanny Cohen, in charge of the health transmissions presented the consequences, sometimes being mortal, of a cardio-vascular disease, which often is ignored, not only by the great public, but also by part of the medical members themselves :the heart-failure.
At the congress of the European Society of Cardiology, held in Athens from 17th to 20th May, 2014, the specialists have expressed their worries facing the lightness of the public and political members’ way of dealing with heart-failure. 2,2 % of the French population is concerned, leading to nearly 160 000 hospitalizations for this pathology every year.2,2 % of the French population is concerned, leading to nearly 160 000 hospitalizations for this pathology every year : only 3 % of the public knows about the symptoms of a cardiac insufficiency… against 28 % for a myocardial infarct and 48 % for a CVA. The most frequent symptoms are: abnormal breathlessness and extreme fatigue where the patient has to request immediate consultation.
Because of belated screening and diagnosis, 40 % of the French patients are dying two years after their first hospitalization for cardiac insufficiency.
