Professeur Albert Hagège, Head of the Cardiology Department at the Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou hospital was the winner of the Prix Danièle Hermann 2016 prize, which was awarded on Tuesday 4th April 2017 at the Palais de l’Institut de France. Inspired by this event, , Docteur Brigitte Fanny-Cohen, commentator and health expert on the Télématin TV programme used the 25th April 2017 show to take a look back over recent advances in the field of cardiology. She paid particular attention to the transcatheter technique, a non-surgical way of repairing or replacing heart valves.

This minimally invasive cardiovascular procedure is designed to improve patients’ quality of life. It means an end to long, expensive hospital stays, operations under general anaesthetic, which can be risky for older patients, and above all, to invasive heart surgery. This cutting-edge surgical technique was pioneered in France by, amongst others, Professeur Albert Hagège, the winner of the Prix Danièle Hermann 2016 prize.
